Job Overview The Retail Operations Manager oversees the Garden Center division and directs a team of Retail Nursery Associates.
This position serves as the main source of botanical advice and knowledge at the Garden Center, and applies this experience to ensure our plant inventory is lush and healthy.
They will garner affordable, top-notch plants and gardening supplies to provide to the growing Wamego community.
The Retail Operations Manager will use their networking skills and devise marketing and social media campaigns to entice and retain loyal customers.
Responsibilities and Duties Design, implement, and improve Garden Center structures in collaboration with other divisions.
Complies with all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to the sale of plants and gardening chemicals.
Source high-demand plant material suited for the Wamego, KS area.
Source soils, soil amendments, pest control, pottery, and gardening supplies for retail sales.
Implement and maintain Point of Sale and live inventory systems.
Assess market trends, Garden Center sales, and competition to establish affordable & profitable prices.
Balance daily cash drawers.
Skid steer operation and loading of bulk material.
Deliveries possible.
Maintain an active social media presence to aid in establishing a customer base and following.
Establish successful marketing campaigns that attract new customers and retain existing clients.
Host Garden Center events to foster community and promote outdoor education.
Provide training and direction for Retail Nursery Associate team.
Ensures all duties assigned to Retail Nursery Associates are complete and assist when necessary.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Biology, Agriculture, or a related field.
Experience:
This position requires 2-3 years of horticulture work experience and 2-3 years of retail experience.
Certifications:
Valid Driver's License Physical Demands:
Able to lift up to 25lb frequently, 50 lb occasionally, and up to 70 lb with another team member; able to stand for up to 10 hour shifts on gravel or concrete; able to stoop, twist, and bend for several hours.
Skills:
Extended horticultural knowledge, ability to network and establish a client base, knowledge of Office-type processing programs, ability to operate a cash register, ability to operate a skid steer, mindset of continuing education Notes:
Thrives in an outdoor setting.
Weather from 20-degree lows to 100-degree highs, powerful Kansas winds, and rain will be encountered.
Close-toed shoes are required for employees at all times at the Garden Center, except when watering.
Work Hours:
Weekend availability, Holiday availability (Mother's Day, Arbor Day, Memorial Day) Compensation:
Wages based on experience and qualifications.
