Non-exempt POSITION SUMMARY Employee performs unskilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of City streets and alleyways.
Employee must possess good mechanical skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Assists in the maintenance and repair of City rights-of-way, City streets and alleyways Assists in the maintenance of department equipment and facilities Assists in the maintenance and constructs City storm sewers Assists in the operations of the City cemeteries Assists in the maintenance of street signs and regulatory devices Paints and marks City streets and curbs Provides snow removal and treatment of City streets, parking lots, airport and EMS Assists other department as required This document in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position.

Experience:
No experience required, however, prefer at least one (1) year of similar experience and/or education.
Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the job satisfactorily in accordance with the adopted personnel policies of the City.
Education:
A high school diploma or GED is required.
Employee must have valid Kansas Drivers License and the ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers License preferably within one year of employment.
Technical Skills:
Employee should have basic mechanical and math skills.
Employee must be able to read, interpret and follow written and verbal instructions.
Problem Solving:
Minimal problem solving is needed in this position.
Employee may encounter equipment breakdowns and different types of street damage.
Supervision:
Employee receives direct supervision from the department foreman and does not perform any supervisory duties.
Personal Relations:
Daily contact with supervisor, co-workers and the public are expected.
Working Environment:
Employee works primarily 80% of the time outdoors year-round in all climate conditions; exposure to various types of weather including adverse conditions may be expected.
Exposed to excessive noise, confined spaces, flammable materials, paints and chemicals with extreme temperatures, burning smoke, and works with and around heavy construction equipment and streets with heavy traffic.
Physical Demands:
Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to safely operate basic construction equipment and a wide variety of tools required.
Employee performs manual labor including digging, standing, bending, climbing, walking, lifting and carrying heavy loads on a daily basis.
Employee must have the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Work Hours:
Primary working hours are Monday through Friday 7:
00am-3:
00pm.
Hours may vary depending upon department/City needs and adjustments are made to the schedule to accommodate these demands when necessary.
The employee may be asked to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holiday hours and subject to emergency call outs on short notice may occur.
